Leon Draisaitl and head coach Kris Knoblauch are entering an important time as the Edmonton Oilers get back to NHL games against the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday.

“We’re a different team, and we aren’t as strong at the moment,” Draisaitl admitted, showing a need for urgency that seems to be lacking.
Edmonton is in a tricky position in the Pacific Division, holding just a one-point lead over the Ducks, who have played two fewer games.
With 80 points in 55 games this season, Draisaitl has been doing his part, but the team’s defense has often fallen apart.
Before the break, the Oilers lost three games in a row, letting in 16 goals during that time, and Knoblauch needs to change that quickly.
Wednesday’s game at the Honda Center kicks off an important road trip in California that could affect the team’s chances for the playoffs.
Draisaitl is expected to take charge despite having a hand problem that started in late January and went with him to Italy.
In his career, he has always performed well in critical games, but he is urging all the leaders on the team to step it up.
The power play is still strong, with Draisaitl scoring 13 out of his 29 goals while on the power play this season.
Critical Time in the Pacific
However, depending only on special teams can be risky when their five-on-five game isn’t working well.
“We need to win games, earn points, and secure our spot,” Draisaitl emphasized, reinforcing the importance of a solid road trip.
The Ducks have been a problem for Edmonton, and the Oilers need to stay sharp in the first period on Wednesday night.
Getting a -3 rating in the last game before the break was disappointing for the big center, who is now concentrating on doing well.
If the Oilers hope to show they are still in the running for the Cup, they need to play well against a determined Anaheim team.
