Oilers and Leafs on the verge of doing a new business after all

Head coach Craig Berube is not including Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Bobby McMann in tonight’s game.

Having two regular players sitting out is a strong sign that a big trade is about to happen before Friday at 3 PM. You don’t keep healthy players on the bench unless a deal is pretty much ready. If you skip that step, something bad could happen, and then you’d be back where you started, which would be a huge problem for the Leafs team.

Right now, the Toronto Maple Leafs are being very careful to protect their important players. An unexpected injury during the 62nd game of the season would seriously hurt their position.

Both players have been closely connected to the Edmonton Oilers for the last month. The Oilers, who are trying to win the championship, are looking for the last pieces they need.

The team managers have already turned down two official trade offers from the Oilers that involved these players. The first offers didn’t have enough draft picks that Toronto was hoping for.

However, Edmonton tried to make a cheap deal, and the team’s management didn’t go for it.

The situation has clearly changed since Toronto is getting ready to let these two players go in the next two days.

A Good Fit for Edmonton

By putting Ekman-Larsson and McMann in the press box, the Leafs are clearly showing all 31 other teams that they want to complete this trade right away.

The Oilers really need experienced defensemen and more scoring options. Their current defense has not been performing well in the last five games.
Ekman-Larsson has a lot of playoff experience and can move the puck well from the defense. He is capable of keeping a messy penalty kill steady and can handle playing 18 minutes in a game if needed.

On the other hand, McMann adds a tough element and a strong game that is necessary to get through a tough playoff series. He is made for the physical side of hockey and battles in tough areas.

As time runs out quickly, it seems likely that the two Canadian teams will start talking again. Edmonton understands what Toronto wants in exchange.

If the Oilers finally choose to stop offering low bids and agree to the price, this trade could be done very soon.

Pay attention to the flight updates and rumors in the locker room as we head into tomorrow. The tension between these teams is definitely reaching a peak.
