Bobby McMann and Scott Laughton are definitely up for trade, and Edmonton Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch really needs some strong forwards.
Before Wednesday’s game, Toronto decided to sit both players out to manage their lineup. Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving is clearly letting other teams know he’s ready to make some trades.
The Maple Leafs are having a tough time, with a poor record of 27 wins, 24 losses, and 10 overtime losses. They are nine points behind the wild-card spot and are completely looking towards the future.
Edmonton has a good reason to act quickly. With a chance to win the Stanley Cup, adding both tough forwards would greatly improve their lineup for the lower lines.
McMann is a great deal with a salary cap hit of just $1.35 million. He has scored 32 points in 57 games and plays the style of game that teams need in the playoffs.
He effectively helps in both offense and defense, working hard against opponents along the boards. Throughout his career in the NHL, McMann has shown he can score tough goals even when there’s a lot of action around the net.
Laughton brings a different kind of toughness to the team. He has 12 points in 43 games this year and offers valuable experience especially on the penalty kill.
The Edmonton Situation
From what I am hearing, it sounds like McMann and Laughton could be heading to Edmonton very soon #LetsGoOilers

Taking on Laughton’s $3 million contract will definitely need some smart financial moves from the Oilers. However, Toronto can help by keeping part of the salary to make the numbers fit for Edmonton.
The Oilers have already shown they are willing to make bold moves by trading a second-round draft pick for defenseman Connor Murphy on Monday. They still have enough draft picks to pull off a big trade deal with Toronto.
Combining McMann’s consistent scoring with Laughton’s tough playing style makes Edmonton’s third line really impressive. Having players who can score from different lines can make a big difference between quick playoff losses and winning championships when the tough games start.
The Leafs’ management realizes they can’t let McMann go to free agency without getting anything in return. The best move for a team that is rebuilding is to get some future draft picks.
Laughton is also a great option for a team that needs more depth at center. The 30-year-old experienced player knows how to handle the pressure of important games and isn’t afraid to get into physical fights on the ice.
Expect the Oilers to really try to make a deal before the deadline on Friday. The competition in the Western Conference is getting intense, and the team can’t afford to just wait around while they aim for a championship.
Bringing in these two temporary forwards quickly boosts the spirit and competition among the players in the Edmonton locker room. The Oilers are ready to make a strong playoff push this spring.
