“What Triggered This?” Brady Tkachuk Pulled for Surprise Drug Test After Intense Game

He certainly had a few drinks, that’s for sure. Listen to Brady describe what happened.

Winning a gold medal at the Olympics is normally a happy time. But for Brady Tkachuk, it nearly turned into something else.

On his podcast with his brother Matthew Tkachuk, the captain of the Ottawa Senators shared how his plans for celebrating after winning gold changed really fast after Team USA defeated Canada in Milano Cortina.

“I was pulled aside after the game,” Brady recalled. “I was thinking, ‘Absolutely, let’s grab some beers and celebrate,’ but then someone tapped me on the shoulder. ‘Hey Brady, it’s time for your drug test.’”

While some of his teammates were already going to have a good time in the locker room, Tkachuk was facing a different kind of pressure—he had to give a sample so he could join the fun.

“I felt the need to pee so I could go party,” he laughed. “Two other guys went right away. . . but I didn’t want to miss a second. ”

He knew he had to drink a lot pretty fast.

Tkachuk said he quickly drank five beers, three Powerades, and two waters in about 40 minutes. The test needed 90 milliliters from him, or else he would have to wait and try again.

With the bus ready to leave, he decided to take a chance.

“Ten minutes before the bus, I thought, ‘Forget it, I need to take a chance,’ and I did. Thank goodness. ”

If he had missed the bus and the celebration, he said he would have been really disappointed.

Gold medal won. Test passed successfully. Celebration still on.

It wasn’t the kind of Olympic moment that fans expected, but it definitely fits Brady Tkachuk’s personality.
