The Florida Panthers are getting a lot of criticism from their fans after Luke Kunin fought against New York Rangers rookie Adam Sykora. Fans are calling Kunin’s action a “dumb move. “
Adam Sykora has started his time with the New York Rangers really well. He was brought up from the Hartford Wolf Pack three games ago and has already scored two goals.
Luke Kunin fought Adam Sykora
On Sunday, Sykora also got his first penalty minutes in the NHL. Near the end of the first period, he fought Panthers player Luke Kunin. Kunin has played more than 450 games in the NHL and hit Sykora, who then hit back with a cross-check. Kunin started the fight, and Sykora tried his best to fight back before being taken down. Both players were given five-minute major penalties.
The Rangers won the game 3-1, but both the Panthers and Kunin were heavily criticized after. Fans said it was a cowardly act to pick on a rookie who doesn’t have a reputation for fighting.
Fans call out the Panthers
“Can you believe they went after a rookie? What a loser. Stay in your trash league,” one fan wrote on X.
“Oh yeah, I feel so strong—I fight a rookie who isn’t even trying to fight back,” another fan added.
“Hitting someone like that is so cowardly, then punching him when he’s on the ground. Another tough guy from the Panthers,” a third fan commented.
“Just typical nonsense from Florida,” a fourth said.
“Starting a fight with a rookie who doesn’t fight—very tough,” a fifth fan shared.
Both the Panthers and the Rangers are out of playoff contention, and the Rangers can’t make it at all. Next, they will play against the Senators and the Devils, respectively.
