Chelios mentioned that the problem for the Oilers isn’t that they don’t have a great goalie; it’s about their defense as a team.

“People often think that’s the issue, but it’s really not. It’s how they play as a team. Their defense isn’t strong. Sometimes they don’t give their goalies a fair shot because they leave them outnumbered. McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, the entire team shares in this blame.

“For the playoffs, teamwork on defense is a must. Scoring goals can be tough. Well, maybe not for McDavid and Draisaitl, but they still need to focus on defending. Until they fully commit to playing solid defense, they will face challenges. ”

Chelios pointed out that McDavid improved his defense during last season’s playoffs. “I think McDavid really tried harder last year. He was definitely better at playing defense during the playoffs. But there’s a tricky balance. You have to think about how much you can give up on defense in order to help your team score and get the offense moving. He’ll find the right balance. He has so much talent. No doubt he made an effort last year in the playoffs to improve his defense. ”
