Did Arber Xhekaj Just Ruin Sam Carrick’s Tough Image With One Punch?

The rising arguments between the Buffalo Sabres and Montreal Canadiens really hit a peak on Sunday night, leading to many fights during the game.

However, the moment that might grab the most headlines happened right when the game ended, as Canadiens tough guy Arber Xhekaj might have put himself in trouble with the NHL’s player safety department.

The Canadiens were leading 6-2 late in the third period, and with the game already decided, both teams started to fight in the last few moments of Game 3. This fight was like the ones we had seen before, but in this last scuffle, Xhekaj decided to go too far with Sabres veteran Sam Carrick.

Instead of just pushing and shoving like usual, Xhekaj hit Carrick with a quick jab, hitting him in the face with his left hand, then landed a massive right punch that knocked Carrick to the ground. Carrick stayed down, but it wasn’t clear if he was hurt or just trying to protect himself.

It’s uncertain if NHL Player Safety will consider this action serious enough to give Xhekaj a fine or a suspension.
