The coach is understaffed in the striker position as a result of the departures of Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio. The additions of Arda Guler and Jude Bellingham have also given the midfield some new depth.

An insider’s perspective on the concepts the manager is using in his training sessions is provided by Arancha Rodriguez (h/t Madrid Xtra). The journalist claims that Bellingham served as Ancelotti’s No. 9 throughout yesterday’s practice.

Vinicius Jr. on the left side and Brahim Diaz on the right flank made up the experimental formation. The newly acquired midfielder onto the pitch as the nine to complete the front three.

The Italian manager also tested a front trio with Joselu as the central striker, Rodrygo Goes on the right, and Arda Guler on the left.

Although both of the tried permutations exhibit different dynamics, they are both built on the fundamentals of a 4-3-3 shape. Bellingham being used on the forward line is different from Joselu, who was a pure finisher at his position.

In the system, the English star was instructed to play as a false-nine, dropping behind the wingers and directing play from the half-spaces. Naturally, if the team does not recruit another attacker, it is one of the options on Ancelotti’s mind for the upcoming campaign.

The manager is investigating alternatives to the 4-3-3 from last season, such as a 4-4-2 diamond and a 4-2-3-1 configuration with a double pivot. The upcoming preseason games will give us a clearer picture of the candidates Ancelotti thinks would make good choices.
