With the selection of cornerbacks as their top two picks, speculation arose regarding James Bradberry’s future with the Eagles. Ari Meirov from 33rd Team identified Bradberry as a potential surprise cut candidate in light of these developments.
At 30 years old and following a less-than-stellar season, questions loom over Bradberry’s tenure with the franchise. Meirov pointed out that the emergence of rookies Quinyon Mitchell from Toledo and Cooper DeJean from Iowa could potentially sideline Bradberry, especially if they prove themselves worthy of immediate playing time alongside Darius Slay.
However, several factors complicate Bradberry’s potential departure. Financially, releasing him would incur significant dead-money charges and cap hits, regardless of the timing. Even if his role diminishes, retaining Bradberry might be more financially prudent for the Eagles. Eagles general manager Howie Roseman previously emphasized Bradberry’s role within the team, stating that he remains under contract and integral to their plans. Roseman emphasized Bradberry’s proficiency as an outside cornerback, indicating a likelihood that he will predominantly fill that role in the upcoming season.
While the situation remains fluid, it appears that retaining Bradberry, albeit potentially in a reduced capacity, is the most probable outcome for the Eagles at this juncture.
