MLB insider floats potential return if Red Sox trade Kenley Jansen

Kenley Jansen could be a solid alternative for the Red Sox to reduce cost before they sign free agents. The seasoned closer was selected an All-Star and recorded 29 saves in the previous year. However, what type of payoff might Boston’s pitcher really receive?

On the “Fenway Rundown” podcast, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic spoke with Chris Cotillo of MassLive about what the Red Sox should really anticipate in the event that they trade for the 36-year-old.

The team is taking on 16 million, therefore I would guess you receive a mid-level prospect for Kenley Jansen. That enrages him. That is his pay. They now receive a superior prospect at the Red Sox, who pay half. Rosenthal stated, “We are aware of how that operates. However, I’m not sure if he’s carrying it with two or three guys. Although it’s only for a year, he is a highly productive individual that you can essentially rely on. However, I don’t anticipate making a huge haul. I would anticipate receiving something passable, but nothing that would rank as a top 100 prospect for Kenley Jansen. I don’t think that will occur.
