Real Madrid’s defence has not been particularly spectacular in his absence. This was perfectly demonstrated in the game versus Atletico Madrid.
David Alaba was chastised for his performance after losing sight of Alvaro Morata for both of his goals on the day. Antonio Rudiger has never been able to recapture the form he shown while under Thomas Tuchel’s supervision at Chelsea. And Nacho is not a long-term option at the heart of the defence. All three of them are beyond the age of 30.
As a result, Real Madrid may require another center-back in the near future. And it appears that they are interested in an Arsenal player.

According to Ekrem Konur (via Fichajes), Real Madrid is willing to spend a significant transfer fee of €70 million to capture Arsenal’s William Saliba. They intend to rebuild their defensive backline.
Of course, Arsenal are unlikely to want to lose one of their important players. Most players, though, find it difficult to refuse Real Madrid’s advances. So let us wait and see what the future holds for Saliba.
The Frenchman is one of the world’s most talented young centre backs. He is also only 22 years old and is anticipated to improve with experience, as most defenders do. So Saliba is definitely someone to keep an eye on.
