Return Date Announced – Casemiro injury update as United’s injury concerns grow

Man United’s injury woes could worsen with a scare for star midfielder Casemiro while on international duty.

Manchester United have been dealt another injury setback ahead of their Premier League match against Sheffield United this weekend.

Erik ten Hag’s side has already been decimated by injury this season and may be without Casemiro for their trip to Bramall Lane this weekend.

The 31-year-old suffered an ankle injury in the first half of Brazil’s 1-1 draw with Venezuela on Friday and requested to be replaced in the second half.

Casemiro began in central midfield during Brazil’s first of two 2026 World Cup qualifiers at the Arena Pantanal in Cuiabá, but was replaced as one of three substitutions on 79 minutes, when Brazil led 1-0, before a late Eduard Bello goal tied the score.

After the match, Brazil head coach Fernando Diniz stated the United midfielder received a ‘blow’ to the ankle, forcing him off.

“Because there was a pause (in play), I decided to make three substitutions,” Diniz explained to Globo Esporte. “When they came on, we had a lot of control.” Casemiro requested to leave owing to an ankle injury.”

Casemiro did not exercise with the rest of the Brazil squad on Saturday, instead staying at the hotel and receiving treatment for the knock, making him a doubt for Wednesday’s match against Uruguay.

Brazil will train twice more before their match against Uruguay, with United no doubt keeping a close eye on their senior midfielder’s injury issue.
