Revealed: Why Rasmus Hojlund's family do not support him in the Champions League

Rasmus Hojlund’s family might not cheer him on as he represents Man Utd in the Champions League

Denmark striker Hojlund was acquired by United from Atalanta for £72 million in August.

The 20-year-old signed a five-year contract with Old Trafford after spending just one season with a Serie A team, where he made 34 appearances and scored 10 goals.

Despite Erik ten Hag’s team losing 3-1 to Arsenal on Sunday, Hojlund did well in his first United game. If the young striker keeps making progress, he will play a crucial role in the club’s future Premier League and Champions League campaigns.

United has been placed in a group with Bayern Munich, Galatasaray, and—most intriguingly for Hojlund—Copenhagen in the latter competition.

Hojlund really began his career at the organisation before leaving in January 2022 to join Sturm Graz, only to move to Serie A six months later.

Emil and Oscar, the striker’s 18-year-old brothers, are currently registered with Copenhagen.

Hojlund acknowledged that even though his parents are likely to have divided allegiances for their boys’ Champions League campaigns even though they had only each made one appearance for the club.

Hojlund told reporters, according to the Mirror, “I called my brothers after the draw,” in the lead-up to Thursday’s match between Denmark and San Marino.

“Our parents weren’t sure who to stick with, so they were a little split, but my brothers and I were like, ‘Come on!'” Incredibly cool. We are a competitive group of people, which is another factor in our current situation.

Before completing a transfer to another team, Hojlund scored five goals for Copenhagen.

The United forward acknowledged that he was eager to face his former team and expressed the wish that all three of his siblings would participate in the Champions League match, whether it took place at Old Trafford or Parken Stadium.

We’re going to play each other in the Champions League, and I can’t wait. Naturally, it’s wonderful to reconnect with your old club.

“It’s my club at home, but you don’t meet your brothers very much in life. We have to hope that both [my brothers] and I participate, but even if the chance merely presents itself, I think it’s fantastic.
