Dan Gore debuts for Manchester United and wows Erik ten Hag

The Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag, clarified the circumstances surrounding Dan Gore’s club debut against Crystal Palace and emphasised the value of a rigorous training regimen.

The team’s talent was still obvious despite Ten Hag making seven roster changes from the weekend match against Burnley. The starting included athletes like Andre Onana, Raphael Varane, Casemiro, and Mason Mount.

United asserted their dominance early, with Alejandro Garnacho opening the scoring in the 20th minute from close range. Shortly after, Casemiro’s powerful header from a corner put the Reds 2-0 ahead. The game was effectively sealed at that point, as Crystal Palace posed little threat. Anthony Martial added the third goal in the second half.

The match marked a perfect evening for United, securing a comfortable victory while welcoming players back from injury. The same fixture awaits Crystal Palace at Old Trafford in a few days, this time in the Premier League.

For Dan Gore, it was a dream night as he made his senior debut for the club, replacing Sofyan Amrabat in the 60th minute. The 19-year-old midfielder was part of the 2021/22 FA Youth Cup-winning squad and signed a new contract in July.

Ten Hag reviewed Gore’s debut, which occurred on his 19th birthday, in a post-game interview with MUTV. He emphasised that players must prove their quality in order to have opportunities at the club.

“I think it’s a fantastic birthday for him, but I’m not a manager — and we don’t have coaches here — who gives players opportunities [for free]. They have to earn it,” the manager said. They receive the opportunity once they have earned it, according to Ten Hag.

“But after that, they must demonstrate it, and I believe that young players like Hannibal, Pellistri, and Garnacho must do it on a consistent basis if they want to earn our praise. Every day in training, they have to earn it. They will notice when the standards are too low, but we won’t play them since they must train as hard as possible each and every day.
