Following his outstanding performance in the team’s 1-0 victory over Burnley, teenage midfielder Hannibal Mejbri received high accolades from Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag.

Mejbri, who is 20 years old, was rumoured to be leaving the club in the summer but decided to stay and contend for a spot in the first team after speaking with Ten Hag. He scored as a substitute in the previous weekend’s 3-1 loss to Brighton, making a lasting impact that won him a starting position against Burnley.

Mejbri was positioned as a No. 10 in the 1-0 victory at Turf Moor, which was secured by Bruno Fernandes’ breathtaking strike, as Ten Hag faced growing injury concerns. The former Monaco prodigy’s performance clearly impressed the Dutch manager.

Ten Hag said to TNT Sports after the game: “Of course it’s a concern. You have a problem with your game’s routine because you sustain so many injuries. You bring in new players that can’t be gradually integrated into the team’s routines (like Reguilon and Hojlund). They haven’t played together much, unlike Hannibal, who performed a great job.

Mejbri will be anxious for further chances in the first team after showcasing his promise against Brighton and Burnley. He insisted on staying and playing at Old Trafford despite Sevilla and Turkish clubs showing a lot of interest.

Prior to this, it seemed as though Mejbri would be about to leave the team as a result of an altercation with Alex Telles on the training field in the summer of 2022. Recent rumours also suggested that Ten Hag would contemplate relocating Mejbri in a manner akin to how he handled Telles when the latter joined Al-Nassr.

The recent signs, however, strongly imply that Mejbri will remain and play a big role in Ten Hag’s squad, especially in light of the manager’s ebullient comments made following Saturday night’s crucial victory at Turf Moor.

Other players who are not generally regarded first-team regulars participated in the game, including Jonny Evans and Sergio Reguilon, who were signed on deadline day. Luke Shaw, Mason Mount, and Lisandro Martinez are among the significant players who are absent due to injury for Ten Hag.

Ten Hag declined to use the expanding injury list as an excuse for United’s recent struggles, highlighting the significance of concentrating on the remaining players and producing results with the current team.
