Gavin McKenna’s mom is in the news again, and this time it’s not for good reasons.
Krystal McKenna, the mother of Gavin McKenna, who is expected to be the first pick in the 2026 NHL draft, has found herself in trouble again.
Hockey fans first heard of Krystal McKenna when her son was charged with felony assault back in January. The story goes that young Gavin was upset about something a man said to his mom, so he punched the man and ended up breaking his jaw. Although that felony charge against Gavin has been dropped, now they are facing new legal issues related to the same event.
Krystal McKenna is now accused of giving alcohol to underage people, based on legal documents filed last month. The date of this alleged crime is tied to the earlier incident, which happened on January 31st, the same day Gavin faced charges for the assault that left the man with a broken jaw.
Right now, details about this new case are scarce. Krystal’s first hearing for these new charges is set for June 3rd at 8:30 in the morning. We will probably have to wait for that hearing to find out more information about these latest accusations.
This is clearly not the best situation for the McKenna family, especially with such an important event coming up in their lives. The 2026 NHL Entry Draft is scheduled for June 26th and 27th this year, and you have to think about how much the McKennas will be able to fully enjoy this moment knowing that Krystal McKenna has a preliminary hearing only a few days later.
Even though people are discussing it, McKenna is still the top pick likely to go first in this year’s draft. The young player had a fantastic season at Penn State, scoring 15 goals and making 36 assists for a total of 51 points in just 35 games.
