Was Everyone Judging Mike Babcock Too Fast? Zach Hyman’s Surprising Decision Transforms Everything

Mike Babcock’s hiring’s true causes are revealed by Zach Hyman.

When Mike Babcock, a divisive and polarizing NHL head coach, was hired, the Edmonton Oilers shocked a lot of people throughout the National Hockey League this summer. During his career in the league, Babcock has encountered several issues, which became apparent the instant the action was rumored to be happening.

Despite the fact that the Oilers have received a lot of criticism regarding the decision, it is a choice that the organization has chosen to pursue and that appears to have the backing of the team’s top players. We got the most recent example of that on Monday morning when Oilers striker Zach Hyman spoke out against the employment and had nothing but good things to say about it.

Hyman said on TSN’s First Up that he believes that as a group, everyone involved wanted to identify the ideal candidate for the role.

He also commended the hiring of DJ Smith as an associate coach under Babcock, which was the Oilers’ other coaching decision.

“Having DJ on board also firmly establishes our coaching staff as one of the best in the league,” Hyman said.

Hyman was in a special position with this move because he had previously played under both Smith and Babcock, but it was evident that he had positive memories of them both after their time with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Hyman stated he was delighted Babcock had been cleared by the league after an inquiry, despite having a positive experience of his own.

“It was crucial for the NHL and NHLPA to complete the necessary process,” Hyman acknowledged.

While Hyman had his own personal experience to fall back on, it sounds like he contacted other players throughout the league and thought there would be no problems with Babcock in Edmonton.

Hyman stated, “As players, you speak to other players and you get a sense for things around the league… I believe as players we were all at ease with Babs and what he contributed.” He is someone we need and someone who can take us to the next level, so this will be excellent for our team.

Only time will tell whether Hyman is correct about his new head coach.
