The Canadiens and the Ducks have reached a deal.
Despite spending the previous three seasons with the Laval Rocket of the American Hockey League, Farrell is the only player in this contract with prior NHL experience. Farrell, who was originally selected by the Canadiens in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft’s fourth round (124th overall), played in six NHL games during the 2022–23 season, where he scored one goal.
A somewhat little transaction occurred on Monday between the Montreal Canadiens and the Anaheim Ducks.
The Ducks were the first to share the news through an official statement, announcing that they had acquired right wing Sean Farrell from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for left wing Sasha Pastujov.
In 72 games with the Rocket last season, he scored 17 goals and 36 assists for 53 points.
Pastujov was chosen by the Ducks in the third round (66th overall) of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, but he has never played in the NHL since. Despite this, he did have a good season with the San Diego Gulls of the AHL last year, tallying 57 points (21 goals and 36 assists) in only 71 games.
This appears to be a case of finding a better fit for both clubs since both guys shoot left but play on different sides of the wing and had such comparable seasons. Hopefully, it also translates to a better match for both players, who now have the opportunity to show the team that selected them that they quit a little too soon.
