According to Page Six, Jack Hughes is unmarried once more, and instead of his game, his personal life is abruptly in the news.
Following a few months of dating, Page Six revealed that Hughes, 25, and Tate McRae, 23, a Canadian pop star, had broken up.
Neither side has ever officially confirmed the relationship, and neither has either ever publicly verified the split, despite being seen together regularly over the last year.
When the two were observed having dinner together in New York City in November 2025, they were first associated.
During the 2025–26 season, McRae attended a number of Hughes’ games, and by February, sources told Entertainment Tonight that the two were “casually dating.”
Most of the summer had seen symptoms of a slowdown. According to a tip posted in June by the gossip website Deuxmoi, Hughes was “acting unmarried” when he was out in New York.
Contradictory accounts of the cause of the relationship’s end surface.
Hughes completely avoided discussing his love life at the TIME100 Sports Gala in July, stating that he was just enjoying his offseason playing golf and spending time with his family and friends.
Days before the story about the breakup appeared, McRae told Us Weekly that she attempts to maintain her relationships “as sacred and private as possible” in order to safeguard her loved ones. She did something similar.
Who is telling the story determines what truly caused the schism. While another claims McRae was the one who left, one source states Hughes ended the relationship after seeing some “red flags.”
Page Six’s article was swiftly disseminated across both hockey and pop culture circles after Pop Crave published it on Friday.
Since both parties have kept this relationship under wraps from the start, a thorough explanation from either side in the near future is improbable, and neither camp has publicly provided a convincing justification.
This is actually simply a footnote for Hughes as the Devils prepare for a season in which they will rely on him to be a top-line difference-maker regardless of what’s happening off the ice.
