Fans are asking the same contentious question about Connor Bedard’s monster contract: is he already overpaid?

It’s Chicago Blackhawks sensation Connor Bedard’s time to cash in, as the National Hockey League’s season of enormous agreements goes on.

On Saturday, Bedard and the Blackhawks announced in an official statement that they had agreed to terms on a five-year deal with an average annual value and salary cap impact of $15 million each season.

Although it is undoubtedly a big sum, it comes after Bedard had what was probably the finest season of his young NHL career to date. In spite of playing in just 69 games, Bedard recorded 30 goals, 45 assists, and 75 points last season.

You must believe that the agreements his newest teammate signed, among others, had a major impact on how high this amount has risen this summer. A large payday for Bedard was set up by the Blackhawks signing defenseman Bowen Byram to a huge six-year contract with an average annual value of $12.5 million per season earlier this summer. The Leo Carlsson offer sheet, a ridiculous 5 years at an AAV of $18 million per season, also highlighted to teams just how important it is to get these deals done early.

Only time will tell now whether Bedard will fulfill this enormous new deal.
