Erik ten Hag, head coach of Manchester United, was pleased with his side’s performance after the squad defeated Chelsea 2-1 at Old Trafford in the Premier League.
Ten Hag praised the Red Devils’ growth and emphasised that they are heading in the right direction in his post-match remarks.
Ten Hag said, “I don’t see that in facts of a response,” in reflection on the game. We had two excellent performances earlier that evening, and we have four games left to play after the break. We had one sad outcome.
Again, today’s performance was excellent, and the outcome was expected. Ultimately, what matters is the outcome, and I’m thrilled with it. I thought they performed really well.
He emphasised the team’s encouraging performances against Everton and Galatasaray, demonstrating the clear development.
In terms of the dynamics of the match, Ten Hag said that although Chelsea occasionally outperformed United, the club displayed resiliency to pull off a comeback.
We had a lot of chances in the first half, and we had a chance to lead by three goals at the end of thirty minutes.
To be fair, they created opportunities and outplayed us one, two, or three times as well, but when you have the kind of spirit we did today, you create your own luck,” he continued.
The head coach gave thanks to the supporters for their continuous support throughout difficult times.
“The audience and followers support us no matter how difficult things get. Since they are our supporters, we must win their approval.
They count on us to give it our all because it is what team members demand from us. Therefore, we must work together and offer our all,” he said.
With goals in the 19th and 69th minutes, midfielder Scott McTominay’s brace gave United the victory.
United dominated the first half even though Bruno Fernandes missed a penalty in the seventh minute. Cole Palmer’s goal towards the end of the first half allowed Chelsea to tie the score.
The decisive header by Scott in the second half sealed United’s win. The Red Devils currently hold the sixth spot in the table with 27 points, while Chelsea sits in the 10th spot with 19 points.
