“Gone Far Too Soon” Michigan State Confirms Heartbreaking Death of 22-Year-Old Hockey Player

A life cut short too quickly.

Over the weekend, the Michigan State University Spartans broke some devastating news: longtime forward Preston Korytkowski has passed away. Just 22 years old, Korytkowski was.

Korytkowski played Division II hockey in the American Collegiate Hockey Association for the last four years of his hockey career at Michigan State University. Over his tenure with the program, left winger Korytkowski played in 103 games and tallied 10 goals and 12 assists, good for a career total of 22 points.

Sadly, the Spartans’ Instagram post on Saturday made it plain that Korytkowski had passed away.

“With a heavy heart, I’m publishing this. Last night, our friend, teammate, and Captain Preston died,” the show said on Instagram.

The public’s reaction to the news, which included hundreds upon hundreds of remarks expressing sorrow and love, demonstrates how much Korytkowski was admired and treasured in the Spartan community. Many people referred to Korytkowski by his moniker, “Hands,” and spoke to him by that name in their emotional farewells to their deceased comrade.

Korytkowski will be remembered as much more than simply a hockey player, despite the fact that he was eventually named captain and spent four years with the program. Although the compliments that are already flooding in attest to his kind and generous personality, he also possessed a remarkable intellect and a promising future. At Michigan State University, Korytkowski maintained a 4.0 GPA and researched human-AI multimodal interaction and virtual reality.

This previous week, the hockey world and community lost a wonderful guy. To the family, friends, loved ones, and anyone else affected by this disaster, I offer my sincere sympathies.
