“I have one condition: I’m returning to Old Trafford.” A contract offer for Solskjaer to return as manager of the struggling club

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the former manager of Manchester United, may have been given the chance to rejoin the managing scene by taking the helm at Besiktas, according to some sources.

Since being fired by Manchester United in November 2021 due to a series of negative results, Solskjaer has not held a managerial position.

The Norwegian managed 19 games as interim manager after Jose Mourinho left Old Trafford, in addition to overseeing 149 games as the permanent manager.

During his first full season in charge of Manchester United, Solskjaer led the squad to a remarkable Premier League second-place result.

But following a humiliating 4-1 loss to Watford in the next season, his tenure was terminated.

Despite purportedly receiving multiple job offers, Solskjaer declined them all, opting to wait for the right opportunity.

According to Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu, the 50-year-old has now been extended a one-and-a-half-year deal to assume the role of the new Besiktas head coach.

The journalist does not disclose whether Solskjaer has accepted the offer. Nonetheless, NTV Spor (via Goal) suggests that the former United boss is strongly leaning towards finalizing the deal.

It is reported that he has been engaged in discussions with the Super Lig club for some time, especially since the departure of Riza Calimbay.

Calimbay left his position at Tüpraş Stadyumu on December 21 following a 3-1 home defeat to Alanyaspor.

Besiktas currently holds the fifth spot in the league standings, trailing Fenerbahce, the league leaders, by 17 points.

Calimbay’s stint as Besiktas manager lasted only a month, encompassing seven matches, where he secured three victories, suffered three defeats, and managed a solitary draw.

If Solskjaer accepts the role, he is poised to become Besiktas’ third permanent coach this season.
