Insider: Bills Could Take Three-Time Pro Bowl Wide Receiver From Division Rival

When Odell Beckham Jr. became available for free agency in 2022, the Buffalo Bills decided not to select him.

However, an insider thinks that this could be the lucky third time around.

After one unsatisfactory season with the Baltimore Ravens, Beckham is once again a free agent. Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport speculated that Buffalo would be the best option for him. Although the Miami Dolphins are allegedly showing a lot of interest in Beckham and have extended a contract offer, Davenport hinted that the Bills would be prepared to intervene if the parties are unable to come to an understanding.

“There’s another AFC East team that may use Beckham’s services if the deal with the Dolphins falls through,” Davenport wrote. Curtis Samuel and Mack Hollins, who the Buffalo Bills signed to replace the departing Gabe Davis, are slot receivers. In addition to being a legitimate contender for a second Super Bowl, Beckham would provide the Bills with a large presence outside of Stefon Diggs.

Bills May Need to Move Fast

While Davenport named the Bills as a top fit for Beckham, he noted that any potential interest could be “moot.” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported Beckham and the Dolphins met last week and share a mutual interest in reaching a contract agreement.

But it is far from a done deal, Fowler added.

“The Miami Dolphins are absolutely interested in Odell Beckham, according to what I was informed during our meeting this past week, according to Fowler on SportsCenter, via Bleacher Report. They will likely need to determine the price at which it will be offered. They therefore refuse to go over budget at this time. They don’t possess a lot of money. They have Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill, but they want to combine those two with an experienced receiver. Thus, there is some shared interest.

Davenport added that Beckham failed to live up to his $15 million in guarantees from the Ravens, making 35 catches for 565 yards and three touchdowns in 14 games.

Bills Connected to Odell Beckham Jr. in the Past

The Bills took some criticism for passing on both Beckham and Mike Evans in the 2014 NFL Draft, taking Sammy Watkins with the No. 4 overall pick. Though Watkins was seen as a surefire prospect, his career was marked by injuries and inconsistent play and he ended up spending just three seasons in Buffalo.

In more recent times, Beckham has been associated with the Bills, notably during some highly visible recruiting efforts by Von Miller. The edge rusher for the Bills, who was colleagues with Beckham on the Los Angeles Rams’ 2021 Super Bowl winning team, was quite certain that Beckham would be joining the Bills in 2022.

“He’s coming to the Bills. He’s coming to the Bills,” Miller said in an appearance on Richard Sherman’s podcast in October 2022. “It’s already said and done. He’s coming the Bills. We’re down a couple of receivers, man… When it’s said and done, we know where Odell is going to be at man.”

Miller was mistaken in his confidence, as Beckham ultimately missed the whole 2022 season in order to recover from an ACL tear. The following season, he signed with the Ravens.
