Former NHL tough guy Pat Maroon might not play in the league anymore since he retired after the 2024-25 season, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t sometimes feel the urge to fight.
“Xhekaj, I really want to face him again,” Maroon said. “Both times I fought him were just terrible for me.”
It seems like Xhekaj’s celebration after the fights annoyed Maroon too.
“He did that roof-raising dance in Montreal,” Maroon explained. “Then when I fought him in Chicago, I couldn’t get a good hold of him.”
This was when they first met in Montreal:
And here’s what happened the next time in Chicago:
Pat Maroon fueled by anger.
There’s another player that Maroon might want to fight even more than Xhekaj for different reasons. That player is Brandon Montour, and Maroon claimed he would love to take Montour down.
“Montour is a guy who always trash-talked me, and I even got suspended for it,” Maroon said. “I’m sure he’s a nice guy, but I really want to knock him out. He drove me crazy, always talking from the bench, and then when I got on the ice, he wouldn’t stop. I actually chased him around the rink, and that got me suspended. ”
It doesn’t seem like Montour said anything too offensive, but it was his constant chatter that eventually tested Maroon’s patience.
“It wasn’t just one or two times; it was all game long,” Maroon stated. “He wouldn’t be quiet for three entire periods. I was thinking, ‘Wow, I’m going to get him.’”
Maroon made it clear again that he still wanted to smash Montour.
“But that’s one person I really want to take down,” said the former enforcer.
If you haven’t seen how Montour and Maroon interact, here’s one instance where Montour’s constant teasing caused Maroon to lose his cool.
