Mason Greenwood, a Manchester United loanee, made a rare public speech after scoring his first goal for Getafe.
In September, the 22-year-old player signed a season-long loan deal with the La Liga squad after reaching an agreement with Manchester United to develop his career away from Old Trafford.
After Greenwood’s attempted rape and assault charges were dropped in February, an internal investigation found that it would be best for everyone if he left the club.
The winger has now scored once for his new team, against Celta Vigo on Sunday night.
Just two minutes after the game began, Borja Mayoral gave Getafe the lead, but Jonathan Bamba quickly tied the score. The first half was fiercely contested.
Around the halfway point, Domingos Duarte was given the boot, leaving Getafe with just 10 men. However, four minutes later, Greenwood restored his team’s lead.
The Englishman scored on a first-time attempt into the roof of Ivan Villar’s net and then joined his teammates in a team celebration in front of the onlookers.
After Jorgen Strand Larsen’s late equaliser tied the game at 2-2, Greenwood shared his thoughts on the outcome.
On Sunday night, he posted photos of himself and his teammates celebrating his goal on Instagram with the caption: “Happy to score my first goal for Getafe amazing team spirit to come away from the game with a point.”
Despite the fact that he is still classified as a United player, Greenwood’s goal was his first since a 3-0 win against Brentford in January 2021, which is likely to be his final goal for the Red Devils.
