Red Sox proffesional game changer agrees to sign with AL East rival (report)

DH One of the Red Sox’s most effective hitters in 2023, Justin Turner, has agreed to a one-year, $13 million deal with the Blue Jays, according to a report on Tuesday by MLB Network’s Jon Morosi.

According to Morosi, Turner’s contract also contains $1.5 million in performance and roster bonuses.

on November, Turner accepted a $6.7 million buyout from Boston after declining the $13.4 million player option on his Red Sox contract for 2024. Turner signed with Toronto after opting out, earning at least an additional $6.2 million.

Turner was 39 on November 23. In 146 games (626 plate appearances), the two-time All-Star hit.276 with a.345 on-base percentage, a.455 slugging percentage, a.800 OPS, 23 home runs, 31 doubles, 86 runs, 96 RBIs, 51 walks, and 110 strikeouts. He had a good season with Boston in 2023. He began 98 games as a designated hitter, 35 at first base, 7 at third base, and 4 at second base.

Turner said he wanted to join with Boston again.

In September, Turner declared, “Obviously, it would be fantastic if I was still here. I love playing in Boston and I’ve had a great experience here.”

Then, in November, he stated that he was still optimistic about signing with Boston.

However, the Red Sox had other ideas, including cutting payroll. Boston is not anticipated to take Turner’s spot. Rather, it’s more probable to alternate a number of different position players in and out of the DH position.
