It is rumored that the Canadiens are interested in three well-known athletes: Jordan Kyrou, Elias Pettersson, and Mason McTavish, which could make Montreal’s summer very exciting.
Jordan Decker’s blog post, which cited a piece that “reportedly linked” the Habs to the players, provided the list.
First, a word of warning. “Reportedly linked to” is imprecise terminology that is more like conjecture than a confirmed search. However, having three names simultaneously indicates an hostile attitude.
And that fits in with Montreal’s location. With a youthful core and the necessary cap and resources to make additions, the Canadiens are currently in sixth place with 106 points and are on the rise.
These linkages are ideal for a team that is prepared to compete since Kent Hughes has been working to create a window.
The three identities, however, could not be more distinct.
Three different-pointing names
Start with the option that will last the longest. Mason McTavish is a 23-year-old center who is signed to a $7 million contract. He is a youthful, manageable pivot who fits in well with Montreal’s growing core.
Jordan Kyrou is a completely other wager. The 28-year-old goal scorer has an $8.125 million hit and has just had a slump, scoring 18 goals and 46 points. A more expensive, win-now swing is that.
The gamble then exists. Elias Pettersson, at 27, had 51 points but an awful minus-30 on an $11.6 million deal, and Carolina is already eyeing him. Big reward, big risk.
Therefore, the three represent three distinct directions. Proven scoring, youthful potential, and a rehabilitation effort. What Hughes actually desires is shown by which one Montreal pursues.
Showing ambition is the fact that all three are associated with a up-and-coming squad. However, they are not equal wagers, and they would lead the business in separate ways.
The youth movement is best served by McTavish. On scoring at the moment, Kyrou is the high wager. The most daring roll of the dice is Pettersson.
