Buffalo Sabres captain Rasmus Dahlin received a nomination for the Norris Trophy, which honors the best defenseman in the NHL, earlier today. He was nominated along with Cale Makar and Zach Werenski.
This is the first time the 26-year-old, who was picked first overall in the 2018 draft, has been nominated for the Norris Trophy, and it’s also the first occasion he has helped his team reach the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
This means that things are really going well for Dahlin right now. He truly deserves all the positive things happening to him after everything he has faced both in hockey and in his personal life over the last few years.
For those who don’t know, Dahlin and his fiancée Carolina Matovac went through some really tough experiences in the past year.

Last summer, while they were on vacation in France, Carolina experienced severe heart failure and came close to dying. She had to undergo hours of CPR and was on life-support for several weeks. Thankfully, she received a heart transplant and, after months of recovery, was finally declared healthy. The saddest part of this entire situation is that Carolina was pregnant when she had the heart attack and sadly lost the baby.
Now, she is healthy and happy as she begins to live her life again with her future husband. Carolina shared a heartfelt message on social media today, celebrating Rasmus and congratulating him for his strength in overcoming their challenges to be recognized as one of the best defensemen in the world.
Here’s what Carolina wrote:
It’s wonderful. You really have to be happy for both Rasmus and Carolina considering everything this young couple has endured.
