Garnacho accomplishes something that Ronaldo couldn’t, breaking Michael Owen’s record

Alejandro Garnacho’s brace in Manchester United’s Boxing Day comeback victory over Aston Villa broke a Premier League record.

He has surpassed Michael Owen (20 years and 12 days versus Newcastle in 1999) to become the youngest player (19 years and 178 days) to score two goals or more on Boxing Day in the Premier League.

The Argentine has, however, started each of United’s last 13 games. When Cristiano Ronaldo was 19 years old, he recorded the longest streak of starts at United (8 games), with his eighth coming on his 20th birthday. Garnacho’s birthday isn’t until July.

The teenage forward’s improvement this season is evident from the fact that he only lined up in consecutive games once in the previous campaign. He’ll probably keep up that trend on Saturday when the Reds play Nottingham Forest.

Alejandro Garnacho shares a text he wrote to his Man United teammates before halftime that motivated Aston Villa to win.
