According to one NBA writer, the New York Knicks and Toronto Raptors should execute a blockbuster trade focused around OG Anunoby. Bleacher Report’s Dan Favale proposed that the Knicks deal Evan Fournier, Quentin Grimes, and three future draft picks to the Raptors in exchange for Anunoby
According to NBA Analysis Network, the Knicks have been trying to sign Anunoby for over a year.
“To be sure, the Knicks still have the assets to aim higher than Anunoby,” noted Favale. “However, it requires large combo wings.” Anunoby is all of that and more. Some may object to Grimes’ inclusion, but his position in the rotation has already been complicated by the signing of Donte DiVincenzo. If he’s in town alongside Anunoby, DiVincenzo, and RJ Barrett, minutes will be harder to come by.”
If this trade goes through, New York could start Jalen Brunson, RJ Barrett, Anunoby, Julius Randle, and Mitchell Robinson. The Knicks, who lost in six games to the Miami Heat in the 2023 Eastern Conference Semifinals, might make it to the conference finals.
In December 2020, Anunoby signed a four-year, $72 million rookie contract extension with Toronto. He has averaged 11.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in his career. The Indiana native led the Raptors to a six-game victory over the Golden State Warriors in the 2019 NBA Finals.
Last season, the skilled small forward averaged 16.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists while shooting 47.6% from the field, 38.7% from beyond the arc, and 83.8% from the line.
In the summer of 2024, Anunoby will be an unrestricted free agent. He recently switched from Klutch Sports Group to CAA. Because he’s a desirable commodity, all signs point to the great swingman being the focus of several trade speculations.
According to NBA Analysis Network, it’s uncertain whether the Raptors would trade or keep Anunoby because the team is deciding whether to rebuild or compete after Fred VanVleet left for the Houston Rockets in free agency.
