Manchester United Considering Arne Slot as Potential Replacement for Erik ten Hag

If Manchester United decides to fire Dutch head coach Erik ten Hag, rumours are rife that they might look to Feyenoord manager Arne Slot.

Ten Hag is currently in his second season as Old Trafford’s manager, but he has already encountered significant pressure.

The Red Devils enjoyed a good 2022–23 season under the Dutchman’s direction, winning the Carabao Cup and finishing in the top four. Their 2023–24 Premier League campaign has, however, gotten off to a shaky start, as they have suffered three losses in their first five games.

While there is no immediate indication of Ten Hag’s dismissal, it’s evident that this situation cannot be tolerated indefinitely.

On the other hand, Arne Slot has emerged as one of Europe’s most respected young coaches. Last season, he drew interest from Leeds United and Tottenham Hotspur but opted to help Feyenoord clinch the Eredivisie title.

If Manchester United decides to break ways with Ten Hag, there is a real chance that they could pursue Slot, according to Dutch site 1908.nl (via Sport Witness).

Ten Hag allegedly hasn’t had much of an impact since joining Manchester United, whereas Slot is thought to be a genuine emerging star in the managing field.

Additionally, Slot’s achievements at Feyenoord should receive more respect, and there are rumblings that he may be about to transfer to a major European football power.

Ten Hag recently said that he is under “pressure” as a result of Manchester United’s unsatisfactory start to the season.

“There is constant pressure. It happened last year, and this year is the same,” Ten Hag said.

“At United, you must prevail in your contests. I can’t be sidetracked because we need to get better. We need to get better. Individuals must take action. You may experience difficult situations from time to time, and you must deal with them.

Robbie Savage indicated that if Manchester United aren’t in a better spot “by Christmas,” it would be time for a managerial change in an exclusive interview with TEAMtalk.

Savage told TEAMtalk, “If things don’t change by Christmas, I think it might be time for a change.”

“What happens to Hag will depend on the results since by that time, we’ll know where they are in the Champions League. I believe that the remainder of the season will be shaped if they are unable to go past the group stage and either slip into the Europa League or withdraw from the competition altogether. However, there are still two and a half months till then, so now is not the time to take action.
