The relationship between Sergio Reguilon and Manchester United has ended.

According to The Athletic, Sergio Reguilon is returning to Tottenham after Manchester United decided to exercise a break clause to terminate his loan agreement.

Following a crisis of injuries at left back, the 27-year-old Spaniard joined United in September.

Though injuries have affected the entire team, Erik ten Hag knew early in the season that he would be without regular backup Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw for an extended period of time

Reguilon made 12 appearances in all competitions, but he didn’t pull up trees at Old Trafford. Without a doubt, his performances were better than Sofyan Amrabat’s forced substitutions at left back.

With Shaw back and Malacia nearing the end of his recuperation, United has decided to activate a break clause in Reguilon’s contract. Shaw will shortly return to the starting lineup after missing the previous two games.

Furthermore, since United is currently eliminated from both the Carabao Cup and Europe, it would be absurd to maintain a third left-back.
