Brighton appears to have carved out a position as the dark horses, especially when pitted against top-four contenders as underdogs. Their recent performance under Roberto De Zerbi has further added to their increasing reputation, particularly in meetings with so-called giants. This was seen in their devastating demolition of Newcastle soon before the break.
In the last 21 matches in all competitions, Brighton has won 12 of these confrontations against formidable opponents such as Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Newcastle, Tottenham Hotspur, and Arsenal. In these games, they had a combined score of 38-27. With odds of 2/1 for an away win at Old Trafford against a Manchester United team known for its weaknesses, this bet has a lot of appeal.
While that is an interesting gamble to consider, here is one that is much more intriguing.
This wager is based on Lewis Dunk, Brighton’s English center-back, and whether he will commit one or more fouls at even odds (Evens). Rasmus Hojlund’s energetic and all-action style is likely to cause havoc in Manchester United’s offensive ranks. Against Arsenal, the teenage attacker showed great poise, participating in physical duels courageously, even against the muscular Gabriel.
In his last 12 games for club and country, Hoijlund has drawn an outstanding 19 fouls. Dunk will almost certainly be charged with containing him. Interestingly, Dunk’s recent record shows a 0.40 fouls per game average over his last 25 games. This means that he is the least likely of the Brighton players to commit a foul, according to the system. This could, however, be an omission that presents an opportunity. At odds of 5/1, betting on Dunk to commit two or more fouls is drastically cheap. Taking advantage of such low prices is a good decision.
