Reasons why Garnacho, Mainoo and Hojlund are not in Manchester United’s 25-man Premier League squad list

The 25-Man Squad for Manchester United’s Premier League Season has been released.

Following the formal release of its 25-man squad for the 2018 Premier League campaign, a few prominent players are noticeably missing from the roster.

Clubs are required to report an updated squad, including any changes to shirt numbers, to the league’s controlling body once the transfer window closes. All other Premier League clubs, including United, have fulfilled this condition.

It’s interesting to note that some of United’s young players, such Rasmus Hojlund, who cost £73 million, Kobbie Mainoo, and Alejandro Garnacho, were left out of the starting lineup. Fans shouldn’t worry, though, as all three of these guys will be able to play in the league this year.

This is because the Premier League’s rules for young players offer some flexibility. Teams have the option to submit an additional list of Under-21 players who are also eligible to play in league matches without being included in the official squad in addition to naming their 25-man senior player roster.

Clubs are required to select up to 25 players for the starting lineup, with a cap of 17 foreign players. United easily abides by this restriction.

Players must have been born on or after January 1, 2002 in order to be eligible for the Under-21 list. Garnacho, Mainoo, and Hojlund all fit this condition. Facundo Pellistri, a Uruguayan winger who has been included to the main roster, was actually born just 12 days before the deadline for young athletes.

The following 25-man roster has been officially announced. Homegrown players are indicated by an asterisk (*):

Onana, Bayindir, and Heaton* are the goalies.

Defenders: Shaw, Wan-Bissaka, Evans, Lindelof, Maguire, Martinez, Malacia, Reguilon, Dalot.

Amrabat, Mount*, Fernandes, Eriksen, Casemiro, Van de Beek, and McTominay are all midfielders.
