Manchester United Legend Peter Schmeichel Criticizes Lisandro Martinez’s Performance
Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel was harsh in his assessment of center-back Lisandro Martinez’s performance in the team’s poor home defeat to Brighton on Saturday.
The Red Devils suffered their third defeat in five Premier League games at Old Trafford, as the high-flying Seagulls outplayed them in a convincing 3-1 triumph.
Brighton won thanks to goals from former Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck, Pascal Gross, and Joao Pedro, with Hannibal Mejbri scored a consolation goal for Erik ten Hag’s side. The manager was also chastised for substituting the excellent Rasmus Hojlund with 25 minutes remaining, prompting boos from the home crowd.
Pascal Gross’s excellent dummy play outfoxed Lisandro Martinez and extended Brighton’s lead nine minutes into the second half. The Argentine defender attempted to block Gross but was easily outwitted, allowing Gross to score.
In this case, Peter Schmeichel was particularly critical of Martinez’s posture and decision-making. “Players, for example, Martinez here, are trying to be heroes and get in and block… Clearly, Manchester United is in trouble.”
Onana Mockery by Carragher
In other news, after Manchester United custodian Andre Onana conceded three goals against Brighton, Jamie Carragher couldn’t help but insult him.
Previously, Carragher chastised Onana for yelling at Harry Maguire during a pre-season friendly against Borussia Dortmund in July. When Gary Neville expressed his discontent with the Glazer ownership after the game, Carragher took advantage of the chance to further insult Onana, bringing up the goalkeeper’s earlier incident.
