But after rallying from a 2-0 deficit to tie the game at 2-2 with Villa, United needed one more hero, and they had found him.
With a turn, swivel and left-footed finish, Hojlund watched on from 12 yards as the ball hit the post and went into the back of the net.
Old Trafford roared when their big-money summer signing finally got his chance in front of the home crowd, but it was the relief that was truly noticeable.
